Hays, Kan. – The SAU Volleyball team lost both matches on day one in Kansas as the opening of the Tiger Classic saw the Muleriders commit 51 attacking errors over two games en route to a .070 attacking percentage.
In game one, the Muleriders started slow against Western Colorado, dropping set one 25-10. In a game where the Muleriders out-killed the Mountaineers, the Muleriders committed 23 attacking errors, tripling the opposition in that category.
Morgan Gross,
Abby Bermudez and
Gabby Thrower each recorded eight kills;
Lauren Smith chipped in six kills and three blocks, tied for team-high with Gross.
Kayley Davis recorded three service aces;
Morgan Schuster racked up 32 assists; and, libero
Alana Perez recorded a game-high 16 digs.
In the nightcap against the hosts, Fort Hays State, the Muleriders finished the game with a negative attack percentage as only two players,
Seven Powers and Gross, finish with five or more kills (six and five, respectively).
Both matches on the day saw the Muleriders drop the decisive set by a score of 26-24.
The Muleriders return to action tomorrow morning to face Newman before ending their time in Kansas with a matchup against Chadron State.
