Hays, Kan. – The SAU Volleyball team closed competition at the Tiger Classic this afternoon, splitting their two games on the day. The Muleriders won a back-and-forth matchup against Newman before losing their finale to Chadron State.
Game one saw the Muleriders and the Jets alternate momentum as the two teams traded set wins for the first four sets before the Muleriders took set five 19-17.
Morgan Gross led all players with 15 kills, with teammates
Seven Powers and
Gabby Thrower also registering double-digit kills with 14 and 10, respectively. Gross,
Bailey Cagle and
Abby Bermudez were the three leading blockers, with Gross blocking five attacks, and Cagle and Bermudez, four.
In a stark contrast from yesterday, the Muleriders hit .244 in this game, including six players hitting over .200.
Morgan Schuster registered a career-high 46 assists, adding in five kills as well.
The Muleriders played the Eagles close in game two despite losing three sets to zero. The Muleriders hit .155 in this match, as Powers and Gross were the only players in the game to surpass ten kills.
The Muleriders now sit a 2-5 on the season. They open GAC play this Tuesday in Arkadelphia against Ouachita Baptist.
