SAU Volleyball drops pair of games against strong competition

Livingston, Ala. – The SAU Volleyball team ends their time in Alabama today with a pair of losses to strong competition at the West Alabama Tournament, dropping the morning match against the hosts 3-0 before hanging close with Augusta, losing that match 3-1.

Game one saw the Muleriders start off slow, dropping set one 25-15. The Muleriders mustered a fight in set two before falling 25-21, and dropped set three 25-13.

Morgan Schuster recorded a double-double in the game, dishing out 21 assists and recording 10 digs.

Morgan Gross was the lone Mulerider to break double-digits in kills with 10. The junior hit .300 from the outside for the game.

The Muleriders lost set one of their second match of the day against Augusta, 25-23, before taking set two 25-20. Augusta, who made last year's NCAA Championship Tournament as the two-seed in the Southeast Region, took sets three and four 25-11 and 25-7 over the Muleriders.

Gross once again led the Muleriders with 13 kills, while Alana Perez was one of three Muleriders to record ten or more digs, leading the team with 20.

Schuster recorded another double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs. The freshman from Arlington, Texas added in three kills and three service aces.

For their performances this weekend, Gross and Perez were named to the All-Tournament Team. Gross led the Muleriders with 34 kills and an attack percentage of .274. Perez recorded 49 digs over three games, only committing three receiving errors.

The Muleriders are back in action this Tuesday in Russellville as they face Arkansas Tech in a conference matchup.
