Edmond, Okla. – The SAU Softball team dropped their opening game in the Central Regional to GAC rivals Arkansas Tech today, by a score of 4-3, as the Golden Suns managed a two-out rally in the bottom of the third inning that was ultimately the difference on the day.
The Muleriders put their three runs up in the top of the second through a
Laina Suesue home run to right field, her fifth of the season.
The Golden Suns rally in the bottom of the third was aided by a pair of two-out walks by Muleriders starter
Victoria Taylor – which was followed by center fielder
Rachel Miller dropping what would've been the third out of the inning, allowing the tying and go-ahead runs to score.
In addition to Suesue's home run, the Muleriders only mustered four hits, two by
Faith Otts, and hits by
Sarah Pitre and
Elisa Favela.
Taylor picks up her fifth loss of the season, throwing a complete game, allowing five hits and four runs, as well as striking out ten opposing batters and allowing three walks.
The Muleriders fall into the loser's bracket, and face Minnesota-Duluth tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in an elimination game. The winner will turn around and face the loser of Arkansas Tech-Central Oklahoma in another elimination game.
