Edmond, Okla. – The SAU Softball team's season ended Friday, entering the day facing elimination through the loser's bracket in the Central Regional.
The Muleriders' first game saw them face 2018 super-regional opponent Minnesota-Duluth. The Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom of the first and held the Muleriders at bay until the fifth inning, when
Sarah Pitre hit the first of four home runs on the day for the Muleriders, tying the game up in the process.
Elisa Favela's two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth pushed across the decisive wins, as the Muleriders ended the Bulldogs' season for the second consecutive season.
Brooke Ford-Nelson picked up her first win on the season, throwing three innings of relief and not allowing a hit while striking out three batters.
Game two saw the Muleriders draw Arkansas Tech for the sixth time this season, and after the Golden Suns took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, the Muleriders responded with back-to-back home runs from
Faith Otts and Favela to tie the game.
The Muleriders would take the lead two innings later through a
Hallie Saintignan single, and the Golden Suns responded with a run in the bottom of the inning.
The Golden Suns would walk off the Muleriders in the bottom of the seventh after a leadoff triple and a sacrifice fly.
Favela threw six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out six. Ford-Nelson, in relief of Favela, receives the loss after the triple and sacrifice fly.
The Muleriders finish the season with a 46-13 record.
