BETHANY, Okla. – After dropping a pair of games via walk-off on Friday afternoon, the Southern Arkansas Mulerider Baseball team bounced back and salvaged its Great American Conference series with Southern Nazarene by earning a 7-2 win over the Crimson Storm in a game that was played at Putnam City High School and featured an hour-plus rain delay.
The Muleriders (22-13, 17-6) received seven innings of work on the hill from
Parker Abrego (5-0) as the freshman allowed just three hits and two runs, while striking out six.
Tanner Vaught worked the final two innings and surrendered just one hit.
Brett McGee powered the Mulerider offense as the team snapped a three-game skid as he went 4-for-6 with two doubles and his second home run of the season. He delivered an RBI as did
Kane Koenigseder, while
Justin Hanlin's 2-for-5 day resulted in three RBI and his fourth home run of the year.
Koenigseder's RBI-single in the third-inning opened scoring and Hanlin's two-run single a couple of at-bats later put SAU up 3-0.
Austin Baker scored on a wild pitch in the fourth and a solo shot from McGee in the same inning staked Abrego to a 5-0 lead. Hanlin answered SNU's first run with a solo blast to make it 6-1 SAU before the rain and lightning halted the contest momentarily.
After the delay,
Dakota Wright added SAU's final run as he scored on a wild pitch.
The Muleriders return to action on Tuesday, April 9 at 3 p.m. in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, for a midweek tilt with Ouachita Baptist. Live coverage links will be available at
