Arkadelphia, Ark. – The SAU Baseball team scored ten unanswered runs this afternoon as they came from behind to win an away non-conference matchup against conference opponents Ouachita.
The Tigers took the lead in the second inning, plating their lone run through an RBI single.
Roberto Diaz led off the third inning with a walk, and
Austin Baker followed with the second of five hits he had on the day to put runners on first and second. A
Jansen McCurdy sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position.
A
Brett McGee sacrifice fly pushed across Diaz to tie the game, and with third base open, Baker swiped one of three bags on the night to move 90 feet from the plate;
Kane Koenigseder singled in Baker to give the visitors a lead they would not relinquish.
Josh Walker led off the next inning by being hit by a pitch, and moved to second on another Diaz walk. Baker followed with a single up the middle for his only RBI on the game, scoring Walker. McGee picked up another RBI on a single that scored Baker, and McCurdy scored on a passed ball to make the score 5-1.
The Muleriders doubled their run total in the sixth inning, with the inning starting with an
Austin Baker infield single, then stealing second base during the next at-bat. Baker moved to third on a McCurdy fly-out and, after McGee reached base via walk, scored on a Koenigseder double.
Cooper King singled in another run, and
Zach Muldoon followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Koenigseder.
A
Josh Walker double pushed across another run, and the first baseman finished the game's scoring after crossing the plate on a wild pitch.
Remy Bilodeau picked up his first collegiate win, throwing six innings, allowing four hits, two walks and one run while striking out two.
Ryan Williams, JT Watt and
JP Casey each threw shutout innings in relief to see the game out for the Muleriders.
The Muleriders improve to 23-13 on the season. They are in action this Sunday and Monday against Arkansas Tech in a three-game conference series.
