Arkansas Tech edges Muleriders 7-6 in series opener

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southern Arkansas tied its Great American Conference series opener with Arkansas Tech at 6 runs each with an RBI-single by Austin Baker in the eighth inning, but the Wonder Boys responded with an RBI-single from Britt Stroth in the home-half of the inning to take a 7-6 lead and eventually the win in game one by the same score on Sunday afternoon from Tech Field in Russellville, Arkansas.

The Muleriders (23-14) plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 3, but the Wonder Boys answered with three runs of their own in the next half inning to take a 6-3 lead. In the fifth inning, Roberto Diaz scored on a wild pitch and Brett McGee was chased home on a balk as Southern Arkansas pulled to within a 6-5 deficit.

The aforementioned productive three-run fourth inning from the Muleriders came as a result of an RBI-single by Cooper King as well as a two-run error in Justin Hanlin's at-bat.

Garrett Walker started for SAU, but went just 2.1, while Nathan Stubber finished the final 5.2.

The teams return to action tomorrow to decide the series in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
