Magnolia, Ark. – The SAU Baseball team dropped the opener of their final regular-season series, losing 17-11 to GAC regular season champions Arkansas-Monticello.
The Weevils pushed across runs in seven of the nine innings, and the Mulerider scored in six innings as both teams combined for five errors on the night.
Jansen McCurdy homered twice in this game;
Austin Baker doubled twice as the top two hitters for the Muleriders combined to go 5-10 on the night.
The Muleriders avoided the run rule as they scraped across four runs in the eighth and two runs in the ninth as the eleven runs scored is tied for the sixth-most runs the Muleriders managed this season.
Hunter Brantley took the loss in this game, only lasting four innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits.
Nathan Stubber threw two innings of relief,
JP Casey threw in relief and
Ryan Williams threw the final three innings of the game.
The Muleriders are 28-17 and 20-10 in conference play. They close out the regular season tomorrow against the Weevils in a doubleheader.
