Texarkana, Texas – The SAU Baseball team took an early lead in their midweek matchup with Texas A&M Texarkana on Tuesday, before letting the Eagles back into the game with a four-run eighth inning.
The Muleriders put two runs on the board in the top of the first courtesy of
Kane Koenigseder's second home run, scoring
Brett McGee. McGee reached on an infield single after the Eagles infield lost the ball in the sun that would've resulted in the third out of the inning.
Zach Muldoon picked up his first of three RBIs on the night in the third inning as a result of a bases-loaded walk.
After the Eagles put a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth, Muldoon hit an RBI single with two outs to put the Mulerider advantage back to three runs.
The Eagles were held at bay until a four-run eighth inning put the hosts into the ascendency for the first time in the game entering the final frame.
Austin Baker led off the inning with a single up the middle; he stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Eagles catcher. A McGee RBI single scored Baker and tied the game.
Chad Paris replaced McGee on the base path, and
Cooper King drew a walk to put two runners on for Muldoon, who delivered once again with an RBI double to give the Muleriders the lead and ultimately the game.
Freshman pitcher
Austin Stubber made his first collegiate start, allowing eight hits and one run while striking out four in five innings.
Tanner Vaught threw the next 2.2 innings in relief, allowing two hits and four runs, none of which were earned.
