Arkadelphia, Ark. – The SAU Softball team took care of business on Saturday, not falling victim to a lack of offense that saw them eke out a game one 1-0 win over Marisa Butler and Ouachita despite being no-hit.
The Muleriders got to Butler early in game two, loading the bases in the second inning courtesy of an
Elisa Favela single,
Savanah Martinez hit by pitch and a
Rachel Miller bunt single.
Sarah Pitre then drew a walk to break the scoreless deadlock, and later in the inning with two outs,
Laina Suesue singled up the middle to drive in two more runs to make it 3-0.
The visitors struck for four more runs in the next inning, all with two outs.
Chelsea Fagan hit her 17
th home run of the season to add a run, and after Martinez singled and
Rachel Miller doubled, Pitre drove in two more runs with her 10
th double of the season to make it 6-0. Pitre scored the next at-bat via a
Christina Hill single.
The Tigers put their first and only run of the series on the board in the bottom half of the inning to make it 7-1.
The Muleriders added two more runs in the fifth inning through a pair of solo home runs –
Sarah Evans hit her ninth home run of the season and Fagan hit her second of the game and 18
th on the season to put the Muleriders in the ascendency and eventually run-rule the Tigers after five innings.
Sydney Wader improves to 21-4 on the year, going the full five innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out four batters.
Game two saw eight of the nine Muleriders in the lineup collect a hit but were shutout through the first three innings. Evans and
Faith Otts started the fourth inning off with back-to-back solo home runs – Evans 10
th of the year and Otts' 14
th. Favela and Fagan followed with back-to-back singles, and after advancing on a Martinez groundout, scored on a Miller single to make it 4-0.
The Muleriders added two runs in the final frame on a Favela home run, her 10
th of the season.
In the circle,
Victoria Taylor threw a complete-game shutout, her seventh complete-game and fifth shutout this season. The junior only allowed three hits and struck out nine Tigers. On the season, Taylor has 125 strikeouts in 86.2 innings.
The Muleriders improve to 41-10 on the season and 32-7 in the GAC. They host Henderson State this weekend to close out their regular season.
