Muleriders to take on Wonder Boys in conference series

Russellville, Ark. - The SAU Baseball team heads into a weekend series with in-state rivals Arkansas Tech in Russellville having gone 2-2 in their past four games. Taking the final game from their series against Southern Nazarene, the Muleriders defeated Ouachita in a midweek 10-1 to put themselves on a two-game winning streak heading into the final stretch of the season.

The Wonder Boys are 25-14 on the season and 17-7 in conference play. They currently sit in third place in the conference, only a half game back of the second-place Muleriders. These two teams met previously on April 2nd in Magnolia, with the Wonder Boys taking a 16-5 victory back to Russellville as the Mulerider defense committed six errors. The Wonder Boys are coming off a midweek loss at Central Missouri after sweeping Northwestern Oklahoma State on the weekend. The Wonder Boys are batting .332 on the season with 112 extra-base hits. They are led by Riley Hickerson, who is batting .413 on the season. Hickerson has eight doubles on the season amd is slugging .523. He has 18 walks to 15 strikeouts and is 12 for 13 on steal attempts. The Wonder Boys pitching staff owns a 5.05 ERA on the season, led by Isaac Hale's 3.10 ERA. Hale has a 7-1 record in ten appearances, throwing 61 innings, including two complete games.

The Muleriders are 23-13 on the season and 17-6 in GAC play. They currently sit a half-game ahead of Arkansas Tech for the second spot in the conference standings, having dropped out of the national rankings after a week that included the aforementioned loss to Tech as well as two losses against Southern Nazarene. The Mulerider offense is hitting .270 on the season, led by Austin Baker's .390 mark on the season, including a 5-5 game for the second baseman from the plate against Ouachita. The Muleriders have hit 107 extra-base hits on the season and are slugging .417. The Mulerider pitching staff owns a 4.81 ERA with 279 strikeouts in 303 innings. Freshman Parker Abrego has been a revelation since being moved to the starting rotation, with a 2.73 ERA and a 5-0 record on the season, striking out 22 batters in 33 innings.

After this weekend, the Muleriders host Mississippi College in a midweek affair before hosting Ouachita in a three-game conference series.
