Weatherford, Okla. -Â The SAU Softball team play their first series as the number one-ranked team in the country this weekend as they make the trek up to Weatherford to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State in a four-game conference series.Â
The Bulldogs are 3-12 on the season and 2-6 in conference play. They only won one of four games against both Southeastern Oklahoma State and Arkansas-Monticello. As a team, the Bulldogs are hitting .243 on the season as 18 different position players have started at least one game this season. The Bulldogs are third in triples (4) and fourth in homeruns (13), as well as fourth in stolen bases (19). As a pitchig staff, the Bulldogs have a 5.62 ERA and have only used three pitchers on the season. They have recorded 32 strikeouts in 91 innings pitched as opponents are hitting .329 against the Bulldogs. Their top hitter is Kaytlin Donaldson, who is batting .361, and their top pitcher is Miranda Grover, who has a 3.99 ERA in nine appearances, four of which were starts. After this weekend, the Bulldogs host Tarleton State in a midweek doubleheader before facing Ouachita in a four-game conference series next weekend.Â
The Muleriders are 17-2 on the season and 8-0 in conference play. For the first time in the program's history, they are ranked first in the NFCA poll. They swept Harding and Northwestern Oklahoma State to open conference play. They are in an 11-game winning streak and lead the league in slugging percentage and home runs; they also have three junior pitchers who have thrown at least one no-hitter and were named conference pitcher of the week -
Victoria Taylor,
Sydney Wader and
Elisa Favela. Favela was also named conference hitter of the week last week, going 8-12 from the plate, and throwing two no-hitters in the process. The Muleriders are led offensively by
Chelsea Fagan, who has a league-high 10 home runs on the season.
The Muleriders' go back to Oklahoma next weekend to take on East Central in a four-game conference series.Â
