#4 Mulerider offense explodes for 25 runs in day one sweep of Bison

Shawnee, Okla. – The SAU Softball team's offense exploded Friday night, scoring 25 runs on 34 hits in the Sooner State as they swept their day one doubleheader over Oklahoma Baptist.

The first game of the twinbill remained scoreless through three innings before Elisa Favela led off the top of the fourth with a home run. Chelsea Fagan followed with a single and Savanah Martinez went deep to clear the bases and put the score at 3-0.
Martinez added another two-run home run the next inning to make the score 5-0 before Favela hit a 2-RBI single in the top of the sixth that scored Faith Otts and Christina Hill to make it 7-0.

The Bison did manufacture a pair of runs to reduce the deficit to 7-2 but the Muleriders exploded for nine runs in the top of the seventh cancel out the Bison scoring.

With all nine runs coming with two outs, catcher Laina Suesue, who went 8-9 on the day and raised her season batting average by 53 points to .336, singled to center and scored on an error by the Bison third baseman. Hallie Saintignan singled in Rachel Miller before a Sarah Evans double scored Saintignan.

Otts followed with a RBI single, and she scored courtesy of a Favela double. Fagan followed with her second double of the season to score Favela, and Fagan, who moved to third after a Martinez single, scored on a Sarah Pitre double to make it 14-2.

A Suesue double scored Pitre and Martinez to put the total at 16 runs for the game, and despite pulling a run back in the bottom half of the inning.

Sydney Wader picked up her league-leading 16th win of the season, going the complete game and allowing seven hits and three runs, striking out three.

The Muleriders started the scoring in game two instantly, with Evans hitting a leadoff homerun in the first inning to put the visitors on the board.

Evans went yard the next inning, scoring baserunner Saintignan to make it 3-0 for the fourth-ranked team in the country after two innings.

Evans sparked the rally in the fourth inning for the Muleriders, leading off the inning by reaching on an error. An Otts double moved the freshman to third base as she scored on the next batter after a Favela single. Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to score Otts, and a Pitre single scored Favela to make it 6-0 Muleriders.

The Bison halved the deficit in the bottom of the inning with a three-run home run, making the score 6-3 after four innings.
With two runners in scoring position in the sixth inning, Pitre doubled in a run, and next batter Suesue singled in a pair of runs to put the score at the final of 9-3.

Favela improves to 9-0 on the season, going the whole way and allowing three runs on three hits while striking out a season-high 13 batters. The Hawaiian hurler has 63 strikeouts to 11 walks in 58.1 innings this season.

The Muleriders, who are on a 12-game winning streak, take on the Bison in a doubleheader tomorrow.
