Fourth-ranked Muleriders blank Bison in day two sweep

Shawnee, Okla. – The SAU Softball team extended their winning streak to 14 games on Saturday after completing the series sweep of Oklahoma Baptist, outscoring the Bison 22-0 after outscoring the hosts 25-6 on day one.

Elisa Favela started the proceedings in game one as she hit her seventh home run of the season to put the Muleriders on the board first.

The bottom of the lineup started the third inning rally for the fourth-ranked team in the country, with back-to-back singles from Rachel Miller and Hallie Saintignan and a Sarah Evans walk to load the bases. Faith Otts singled in Miller and Saintignan, with Evans scoring on the next batter after an error by the right fielder.

Savanah Martinez hit her ninth double of the season to score Otts and make the score 5-0.

The Muleriders added their final three runs in the sixth inning, with Saintignan doubling in Sarah Pitre before Evans doubled in Saintignan and Laina Suesue to finish the scoring.

Sydney Wader improves to 17-2 as she threw three shutout innings, striking out three and allowing four hits. Brooke-Ford Nelson came in relief in the fourth inning after a leadoff single, and threw three shutout innings of her own, only allowing two hit and striking out two to pick up her third save of the season.

Much like game two yesterday, the Muleriders ramped up their offensive output, once again kicking off the scoring in the first inning.

Evans led off game two with a walk and Otts followed her with a single. A Favela single pushed across Evans for the first of 14 runs for the Muleriders in the game.
Miller scored in the next inning, scoring on an error by the shortstop, to double the lead.
Favela led off the third inning with a single, and Fagan went deep for the 15th time this season, to once again double the Mulerider lead.
A Suesue fielder's choice, Miller walk and Saintignan infield single loaded the bases for Evans, and the freshman shortstop cleared the bases with her first-career grand slam and eighth home run on the season as she doubled the Mulerider lead up to 8-0.
Favela led off the next inning by going yard for the seventh time this season, and after Fagan flied out, Martinez hit her seventh home run of the season to make it 10-0 for the visitors.

Pitre, the next batter, reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch. Suesue doubled her home, and Miller promptly doubled her home to make the score 12-0 after four innings.

Favela, who led off for the third inning in a row, struck out but Fagan singled and stole second, and after Martinez struck out, Pitre sent out her sixth home run of the season to wrap up the scoring at 14-0.

Favela picked up her 10th win of the season, throwing a five-inning shutout while only allowing four hits and striking out six batters. For the week, the Hawaiian hurler has thrown 19 innings, only allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out 31 batters.

The Muleriders improve to 32-6 overall and 23-3 in conference play. They return to action this weekend as they host Southern Nazarene in a four-game conference series.
