#19/9 Muleriders travel to Oklahoma to take on Savage Storm

Durant, Okla. - The SAU Baseball team travels up to Oklahoma for the second time this season to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State in a three-game conference series.

The Savage Storm are 12-12 on the season and 7-7 in conference play. They are coming off a weekend where they were swept by Arkansas-Monticello before coming back and beating Central Oklahoma 9-8 in a midweek game. The Savage Storm have won conference series against Harding and Southwestern Oklahoma State this season and are 5-5 in their last 10 games. On the season, the Savage Storm are batting .264 with 16 home runs on the season and are slugging .386 with an on-base percentage of .365. The Savage Storm's pitching staff has a 5.56 ERA on the season, striking out 179 batters in 194.1 innings, giving out 99 walks. Opponents are batting .250 against the Savage Storm pitching staff who have allowed 33 homeruns in 24 games this season. The Savage Storm staff is led by Mason Whitmarsh, who owns a 3-3 record on the season with a 4.60 ERA. Opponents are batting .222 against Whitmarsh in 43 innings this season, who also has 32 strikeouts against only ten walks. After this series, the Savage Storm host defending Division III champions UT-Tyler in a midweek game before heading to Arkadelphia to take on Ouachita in a three-game conference series.

The Muleriders are 17-8 and 12-3 in conference play. They suffered their first road loss of the season on Tuesday against Arkansas-Monticello, having preceded that midweek game with a weekend sweep of East Central. The Muleriders are hitting .277 on the season with 60 of their 224 hits going for extra bases. Austin Baker leads the charge for the Muleriders, batting .408 with six doubles. The junior is also 15-19 on steal attempts this season. The Mulerider pitching staff owns a 4.80 ERA with a league-leading 203 strikeouts in 212 innings this season. Opponents are hitting .269 against the Muleriders. The staff is led by senior Garrett Walker, who is coming off a 7.1 inning performance against East Central that saw the lefty strike out 10 batters and carry a no-hitter into the eighth inning.

Following this weekend, the Muleriders travel to Mississippi to take on sixth-ranked Delta State in a midweek game before hosting Oklahoma Baptist in a three-game conference series.
