Ada, Okla. – The #6 SAU Softball team got back to their winning ways on Friday with a sweep over East Central as the Muleriders outscore the Tigers 12-2 and hit five home runs in the process.
Savanah Martinez kicked off the scoring in game one with a two-run home run in the fifth inning that scored
Sarah Pitre.
Sarah Evans went yard two batters later as the Muleriders jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
The Muleriders tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh as Martinez singled in
Laina Suesue. With the bags full of Muleriders,
Rachel Miller drove in a run via a hit by pitch that scored Martinez;
Elisa Favela then singled to drive in
Hallie Saintignan for the game's sixth and final run.
Sydney Wader picked up her tenth win of the season, throwing a complete game shutout, only allowing six hits and two walks, striking out two. The junior pitcher only needed 83 pitches to get through the seven innings of work.
The Muleriders put numbers on the scoreboard earlier in game two than in game one, with Favela hitting a two-run home run that scored Evans in the top of the first inning.
The Tigers pulled a run back in the second inning, scoring on an Evans error.
Pitre extended the lead with a two-run home run of her own, scoring
Faith Otts.
Chelsea Fagan finished the scoring for the Muleriders with a two-run home run in the fifth inning, her league-leading 11
th home run of the season.
The Tigers singled in a consolation run in the bottom of the inning, putting the score at its final, 6-2.
Elisa Favela improves to 5-0 in the circle, throwing a complete game and only allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk, striking out two.
The Muleriders look to sweep the series against the Tigers tomorrow.
