#6 Muleriders tame Tigers en route to day two sweep

Ada, Okla. – The SAU Softball team took care of business on Saturday by sweeping East Central, outscoring the Tigers by a combined score of 18-3.

Game one saw the hosting Tigers strike first with an infield single to give them the lead in the bottom of the second inning.
The Muleriders tied the game back up in the top of the next inning courtesy of a Faith Otts sacrifice fly. The sacrifice fly sees the junior tie the school record for most sacrifice flies in a career with 10.

Rachel Miller added a sacrifice fly of her own to put the Muleriders in the ascendency as the visitors did not concede the lead for the remainder of the game.

Elisa Favela singled home Sarah Evans in the fifth inning to make it 3-1. The Muleriders tacked on a couple of runs in the seventh inning via a Sarah Evans home run and a Laina Suesue RBI single.

The Tigers went deep to pull a run back and make it 5-2, but a Brooke Ford-Nelson relief appearance kept the Tigers at bay as the senior reliever picked up her second save of the season, pitching a perfect inning and stranding an inherited runner at second base.

Sydney Wader picked up her 11th win of the season, going six innings, allowing four hits and two runs, walking two and striking out two in the process.

Game two saw the Muleriders bats come to life, scoring 13 runs behind a pair of big flies from Otts.

Otts started the scoring in game two by singling in Evans, who started the game off with a leadoff triple. Favela, the next batter, went deep to score Otts and put the score at 3-0 before the Tigers recorded an out.

Savanah Martinez singled to lead off the second, and walks to Hallie Saintignan and Evans loaded the bases for Otts, who promptly cleared them for her fourth home run of the season.

Favela, Suesue and Sarah Pitre walked to reload the bases, and Favela scored on an error by the Tigers shortstop.
The Tigers went deep to put a solitary run on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

Otts went yard for the second time in the game, scoring Evans. Favela walked, then Chelsea Fagan hit her league-leading 11th home run of the season to score two more runs. Martinez then scored Suesue on a single to put the Muleriders at 13 runs.

Favela improves to 6-0 in the circle, pitching four innings and allowing only four hits and one run while striking out three. Ford-Nelson pitched a perfect fifth inning, striking out a batter.

The Muleriders improve to 22-6 on the season and 13-3 in conference play. They return to action this weekend at home, as they host Southeastern Oklahoma State in a four-game conference series.
