Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Nick Rackley

Strong second half not enough for Muleriders against Arkansas Tech

MAGNOLIA – The SAU Women's Basketball team outscored the Golden Suns 50-42 in the second half, but the plus-eight in the final 20 minutes was not enough to overcome a 31-12 second quarter for Arkansas Tech as the Muleriders see their second three-game winning streak of the season snapped by a conference opponent.

The deciding second quarter saw the Suns shoot 52 percent from the field while the Muleriders only shot 21 percent.

The one-point game at the end of the first quarter turned into a 20-point game at halftime, and the Suns were able to keep the Muleriders at arm's length for the second half.

Alyssa Crase and Diamond Morris led the Muleriders' offensive effort with 17 points each. Crase went 7-8 from the field, making a three-pointer, and going 2-4 from the line. The senior grabbed four rebounds and two steals in 20 minutes.

Morris went 7-16 from the field, going 3-6 from deep as she dished out three assists in 17 minutes on the floor.

Ariana Guinn and Erin Brinkley tied Crase for the team-high in rebounds with four. Guinn scored three points and Brinkley scored 10 points, including making a pair of free throws.

The Muleriders forced 21 Suns turnovers as they shot 40.6 percent from the field. They shot 54.8 percent in the second half, including 35.7 percent from three.

Maggie Evans recorded three steals as Braydyn Hill and Crase recorded two apiece.

The Muleriders drop to 6-2 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. They return to action inside the W. T. Watson Center on Tuesday to host Rogers State.
