SAU Women’s Basketball edge past Choctaws in OT; Warren drops career-high 22 points

Clinton, Miss. – The SAU Women's Basketball team entered tonight's game on the brink of matching their win total from the entirety of last season, matching up against Mississippi College, a team that beat the Muleriders in overtime last season in Magnolia.

Much like last year's contest, the Muleriders entered the half with a nine-point lead. However, the Choctaws shot 60.7 percent from the field in the second half to send the game into overtime.
Seven lead changes in the fourth quarter and overtime, and 20 total, saw the back-and-forth affair decided at the free throw line. The Muleriders shot 91.7 percent (11-12) from the charity stripe while the hosts only went 11-17.

Sophomore Kylie Warren led all players in scoring, as the Carlisle native tallied a career-high 22 points on 6-12 shooting from the floor and 6-11 shooting from three. Warren went 4-4 from the line, making a pair late in the fourth quarter and in overtime; Warren also grabbed three rebounds and three steals as the Muleriders forced the Choctaws into 32 turnovers.

Erin Brinkley and Kisi Young joined Warren as double-digit scorers with 14 points each. Brinkley put in back-to-back layups in the last minute of overtime, both times giving the Muleriders the lead, while Young grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Brinkley shot 6-12 from the field while Young converted seven of her nine attempts.

Guard Camryn Fennell dished out a team-high six assists in only 15 minutes on the floor. The sophomore, who also recorded three steals, only scored two points on the night – the go-ahead layup with 33 seconds left in overtime to put the visitors in the ascendency.

With this win, their first overtime win since February 20, 2018 over Arkansas-Monticello, the Muleriders match their win total from last season, including avenging two losses from last year's campaign.

The Muleriders open their conference schedule this Thursday in Arkadelphia against Henderson State.
