Magnolia – The SAU Volleyball team kicked off homecoming weekend against Oklahoma Baptist inside the W. T. Watson Center as the hosts took the first set off the team currently atop the conference standings before ultimately losing in four sets.
Set one saw the Bison hit .000 on the set, with their ten attacking errors the most either team made during a single set on the night.
In set one, the Muleriders went down by scores of 7-3, 11-7, 18-12 and 22-15; a 10-1 run with kills from
Abby Bermudez,
Seven Powers and
Kenadee Poye, as well as a service ace by
Kayley Davis, combined with six Bison errors gave the Muleriders set one.
The Bison, making ten set one errors, only made nine over the next three sets.
Senior
Kayley Davis, making her first appearance as a libero this season, recorded a career-high 23 digs on the night, obliterating her season-high of nine digs and her previous career-high of 15, set against Arkansas-Monticello last season.
The Irving, Texas native's 23 digs, a game-high, accounts for 20.1 percent of her dig total this season (114) and eight percent of her total digs recorded at SAU (277); she also recorded a service ace in the aforementioned first set and chalked up a career-high three assists.
On the attacking side, Powers led all players as she recorded a season-high 16 kills and attacked .149 on the night.
Morgan Gross, who attacked .200, buried 13 kills as well as recording three blocks.
Freshman
Morgan Schuster assisted a game-high 33 times, as well as put down two kills, a block and seven digs.
The Muleriders are in action tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. as they take on Southern Nazarene.
