Muleriders’ slow second half leads to loss at Southern Nazarene

Bethany, Okla. – The SAU Women's Basketball team end their second Oklahoma trip of the season still winless in the Sooner State with a 60-50 loss to Southern Nazarene in a game where the Muleriders held the lead from the beginning of the game until midway through the third quarter, and still find themselves on the losing end.

The Muleriders entered halftime with a 33-27 lead, but the Crimson Storm (9-9, 8-4) outscored the Muleriders 33-17 in the second half.

Alexus Jones propelled the Crimson Storm in this one as she scored a game-high 16 points, including 12 in the second half, despite the Muleriders holding Jones to 6-25 shooting from the floor.

Erin Brinkley led the Muleriders in all aspects of the game, recording 11 points on 4-9 shooting from the field and 3-3 from the free-throw line. The Tyler, Texas native also grabbed 10 rebounds and recorded six blocks in 31 minutes on the floor. This game marks Brinkley's first career double-double, as well as a career high in blocks and rebounds.

Senior Olivia McWilliams was the other Mulerider to score in double digits, with 10 points on 4-9 shooting from the floor, including 2-4 from three-point range. McWilliams also grabbed a rebound and two steals in 22 minutes.

Senior forward Alyssa Crase came a basket short of a double-double of her own, with eight points and 10 rebounds. The Greenwood native also dished out a team-high three assists and went 4-5 from the charity stripe in 19 minutes on the floor.

Guard Ariana Guinn also scored eight points, grabbed two rebounds, threw two assists and recorded two steals in the freshman's third start of the season.

The Muleriders drop to 2-16 on the season, and 1-11 in the GAC. They return home next weekend for a pair of home games against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday and Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
