Muleriders overmatched by #15 Bulldogs

Magnolia, Ark. – The SAU Women's Basketball team dropped their Thursday night matchup against #15-ranked Southwestern Oklahoma State in a 86-61 defeat in which the Muleriders held the conference's all-time leading scorer to nine points.

The Muleriders held Hailey Tucker to nine points on 3-8 shooting from the field as the GAC's all-time leading scorer battled foul trouble all game; it was Taylor Hedrick who scored a game-high 19 points as four Bulldogs scored more than ten points en route to a 25-point victory.

Jerica Bell led the scoring for the Muleriders, who scored 14 points on 5-8 shooting from the field and 4-6 shooting from the free-throw line. Bell also grabbed four rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists in 25 minutes off the bench.

Lena Maledon was the other Mulerider to score in double digits, scoring ten points on 5-6 shooting from the field. The Parisian guard also grabbed a rebound, threw two assists and blocked a shot in 24 minutes on the floor.

Guards Brette Wacha and Tamera Shaver grabbed a team-high four rebounds, with Wacha scoring six points and Shaver scoring two points. Guard Ariana Guinn grabbed two of the three Muleriders' steals on the night, also scoring eight points on 1-4 shooting and 6-6 from the charity stripe.

As a team, the Muleriders shot 44.7 percent (21-47) from the field but only 18.8 percent (3-16) from behind the arc. The Muleriders also made 16 of 18 free throws, but turned the ball over 19 times compared to the Bulldogs' eight.

The Muleriders fall to 2-17 on the season and 1-12 in conference play. They return to action on Saturday to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State at the W. T. Watson Center.
