MAGNOLIA, Ark. – After having the weekend off following two matches at the Dallas Baptist Tri-Match, the Southern Arkansas Mulerider Volleyball team is set to resume Great American Conference play this week beginning with a Tuesday night match at Ouachita. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
Southern Arkansas (3-8, 0-1 GAC) is looking to get back on track after dropping seven straight matches, but it will be tough against the Tigers as Ouachita (10-3, 1-0 GAC) enters the week with a GAC-leading .248 team hitting percentage; the 25
th highest hit clip in the nation. Additionally, Ouachita owns the lowest opponent hitting percentage at .154 in the league. The team's 605 kills rank seventh in Division II, while the 569 assists are the sixth-most in the country.
The team's high assist mark is courtesy of Stormi Leonard, who averages a league-best 9.88 assists per set, while her 474 total assists lead the conference and rank fourth in Division II. Adrianna Nolly has been the recipient of several assists from Leonard as her 166 kills leads the GAC and is currently the tenth-most in the country. Nolly also paces the conference in points per set with 4.33 and in total blocks with 49; which ranks eighth in the nation.
The Muleriders are hitting .122 as a team with 424 kills. SAU ranks fifth in the Great American Conference in blocks per set at 1.77 and is led along the front row by sophomore
Lauren Smith who has delivered 38.0 total blocks this season at 0.95 per set.
Freshman
Camryn Bihary has been a mainstay along the back row for the Muleriders this season. The rookie libero has produced 16 service aces and ranks fifth in the GAC in service aces per set at 0.40, while also holding the sixth-best digs per set mark of 4.30, while her 172 total digs also ranks sixth.
Tuesday night will feature a special reunion as former Mulerider and All-GAC performer
Alli O'Banion, now an assistant coach with the Tigers, faces her former team for the first time after a playing career at SAU from 2014-17. O'Banion finished her SAU career with 1,023 kills and 314 career blocks to go along with several Top 10 single-season and career program marks.
