HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS
  • SAU put up a pair of runs early in the game to take a 2-0 lead over the Choctaws in the bottom of the first
  • Austin Baker singled to center field to lead-off that frame where he would reach third base in the same play following a misplayed ball by the center-fielder.
  • Baker scored later on a wild pitch and Jacob Richardson came to the plate later in the inning and stroked his 11th dinger of the season in the form of a solo homer that left the yard out in left-center field to make it 2-0, SAU.
  •  SAU would hold the Choctaws at zero through the first three innings and add a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI single off the bat of Jake Tisevich and an RBI sacrifice fly later in the inning by Dakota Wright that made it 4-0.
  • A two-out single from Sam Mrstik in the bottom of the fifth would eventually come around to score SAU's fifth run in the game as Wright connected with his second triple of the season and laced a first-pitch delivery into the right-center field gap.
  • Starting pitcher for SAU Dillon Lawrence held the Choctaws hitless through the first three innings until giving up a hit in the fourth, and would not allow a hit through the following three innings until the eighth when Mississippi College drew a lead-off walk and eventually plated a pair of runs in that inning on a 2-run homer out to left-field that make it 5-2.
  • Nick Starr came in relief in the ninth inning for Lawrence and picked up his fifth save on the year after striking out the tying run at the plate to end the game at a final decision of 5-2.
