No. 5 Lady Muleriders shut out UAM twice in doubleheader sweep on Rivalry Tuesday

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Lady Mulerider softball team improved its win-streak to fourteen as they secured a doubleheader sweep of Arkansas-Monticello on Rivalry Tuesday in its final regular season conference action in Magnolia.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS
  • Taylor recorded her third-most strikeouts this season with 11 in the contest and it was also the 19th time this season she has allowed five or fewer hits to opponents in 23 games started
  • Additionally, it was Taylor's seventh recorded shutout this season
  • For the 15th time this season, SAU as a team has struck out at the plate two or fewer times
  • The win for SAU improved its win-streak to 13 which is the longest of the season
  • Senior Brooke Goad was responsible for SAU's run support in the game as she left the yard twice in solo form that pushed SAU to its 2-0 final decision

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS
  • Trahan recorded a new career-high ten strikeouts as she went the distance for Southern Arkansas and marked her sixth-straight win of the season after seven innings of work
  • It was also the third time in seven starts this season that Trahan has shutout an opponent, and the fifth time this season she has allowed five or fewer hits
  • SAU's seven runs in the contest was the 25th time this season SAU has scored seven or more runs in a game of the 47 games played this year  
  • SAU grabbed an early lead in the first inning via Marina Duran's RBI single to right field, 1-0
  • Duran plated another run in the third and put SAU up 2-0 on an RBI double to the right-center field wall
  • Roye and Goad were responsible for the additional pair of runs plated in that inning on a bases-loaded RBI groundout and a walk drawn, respectively
  • In the fourth inning, Roye left the yard for the sixth time this season and the first since March 9TH with a 2-run shot out right-center field that made it 6-0
  • Miller left the yard in the next inning with a towering solo shot out to left-center that pushed SAU to its eventual 7-0
 
AT THE PLATE
  • SAU tallied nine hits as a team, four of those going for extra bases
  • Roye led SAU with 3 RBI and was 2-for-3 with a dinger and a run scored
  • Duran tallied a pair of RBI in her 2-for-4 effort at the dish with two runs scored
  • Miller and Goad each collected an RBI apiece
