HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Arkansas Tech was able to get the lead-off runner on base and moved to third in the first two innings, but strong defense from SAU kept the Golden Suns from scoring.
  • The Lady Muleriders went hitless through the first 3-innings before establishing the lead in the fourth.
  • After facing ATU's starting pitcher, Gum, one-time through the lineup, SAU made some key adjustments in their second appearances at the plate that served to be the turn-around in the game.
  • In that frame, Brooke Goad took advantage of a 2-2 rise ball left hanging over the plate and drove it over the right-center field wall. Maddie Dow followed immediately after with an opposite field bomb that left the yard in the exact spot as Goad's previous homer. Jill Roye continued the hitting streak for SAU in the inning with a double to right-center field that was followed with a pitching change for ATU and no additional runs were scored, 2-0 SAU.
  • The Golden Suns stranded 3-total base runners in the fourth and fifth innings before cutting their run deficit in half in the sixth. Back-to-back lead-off singles set the tone for ATU in that inning. A defensive error on a sacrifice bunt loaded the bases for the Golden Suns as they capitalized with a 5-pitch walk that plated their first run.
  • In that same frame, no-outs quickly turned into three as Southern Arkansas' defense forced a triple play on a sac-fly attempt to center field. Rachel Miller made the catch on the line-out and fired home to Tyler Casada who laid the tag on the tying-run attempt for the second out. Casada then threw down to third base catching the runner trying to advance and ended the inning without any further damage.
  • Down to their final 3-outs in the game, Arkansas Tech posted a threat as the possible, tying-run led off the bottom of the seventh with a single. A sacrifice bunt successively moved that runner into scoring position and brought the go-ahead run to the plate, who was subsequently sent to first base on a hit-by-pitch.
  • SAU ended the threat shortly after with a pair of back-to-back outs to claim the 2-1 victory over the Golden Suns.

IN THE CIRCLE
  • In five innings tossed, Victoria Taylor scattered six hits and allowed only one run to score.
  • Reliever, Peyton Jenkins, came into the game with a pair of base runners on in the sixth and pitched her way through a bases-loaded, no-outs situation without allowing a run to score.

AT THE PLATE
  • Goad and Dow both led the SAU offensively after each had a 1-for-3 effort at the dish that included a homerun and a walk.
  • Roye, Godoyo, Duran, and Otts each collected a hit in the game, Roye's going for extra bases.
  • Both teams left a combined total of 15 runners on base, (ATU 8).
