HOW IT HAPPENED
- Henderson State took an early 1-0 lead on double down the left field line by Kiersten Seahorn. The Lady Muleriders answered right back in the bottom of the first, however, with a two-run frame to flip the scoreboard in their favor, 2-1.
- In that inning, Monica Islava singled into right field scoring Brooke Goad for the first run. On that same play, an error by the Reddies' right fielder allowed Maddie Dow to score as well.
- Two innings later, Islava delivered another big hit as she doubled down the right field line, scoring pinch-runner Chloe Hicks and Dow.
- A batter later, Tyler Casada singled home Islava to make it 5-1, SAU
- That score held until the top of the sixth when the Reddies plated a run, but a RBI triple by Faith Otts in the bottom of the sixth got that run back and during the next at-bat, Otts scored on a wild pitch to push the lead out to five runs, 7-2, which ended up being the final score.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Kaylee Garner got the ball to start the game, but was lifted for reliever Jill Roye after a leadoff double in the top of the third. Prior to that, Garner had allowed a run on five hits.
- Roye, however, was stellar in relief as she stranded the inherited runner and limited the Reddies to just one more run the remainder of the game.
- After getting out of the third, Roye then went on to pitch the final four innings of the game en route to earning her fifth win of the season. Roye also scattered four hits while striking out two.
AT THE PLATE
- The Lady Muleriders were out-hit in the game, 9-6, but they were able to come up with the clutch hit with runners in scoring position.
- Of their six team hits, four were spread out among Monica Islava and Tyler Casada as the duo each went 2-for-3. Casada had a RBI, while Islava drove in three. Both also had a double in the game.
- Faith Otts had a RBI triple to give SAU their third extra-base hit of the game
