Leading Off
For the 11th time overall, and the ninth in the last 10 years, the Southern Arkansas baseball team has advanced to a NCAA Regional Tournament as the Muleriders earned an at-large bid as the No. 5-seed in the 2017 NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament. The Muleriders' first opponent in the regional is No. 4-seed Lindenwood and the two teams are set for a 1:15 p.m. first-pitch on Thursday.
Statistically, the Muleriders enter play hitting .309 as a team and have a 4.37 team ERA. Through 53 games, the Muleriders have scored 397 runs offensively while the pitching staff lays claim to five shutouts.
Individually, the Muleriders have five players hitting over .300 with two of those over .360. Unanimous GAC Player of the Year and NCBWA Central Region Player of the Year,
Trevor Rucker leads the club at .387. Rucker also leads the team in home runs with 20 and four Muleriders have collected 40 or more RBIs with
Mark Fontenot leading in that category with 53.
On the mound,
Kenneth Tabor (11-1) leads the team in wins with 11, while
Dalton Algiene sports the lowest ERA among starters at 2.09. Algiene also leads the team in strikeouts with 92 in 77.2 innings pitched.
For Lindenwood, the Lions are hitting .309 as a team with 90 doubles, 18 triples, 26 home runs, and 367 runs scored. On the mound, the Lions have a 4.47 team ERA and have struck out 401 opposing batters while issuing 140 bases on balls.
The leading hitter is Wes Degener at .403. Kyle Teter leads the team in home runs (7) and RBIs (56) . Brendan Feldmann has the lowest ERA among starters at 3.16. Feldmann also has the most strikeouts on the team with 104 in 105.21innings pitched.
