The Southern Arkansas baseball team is the regular season champion in the Great American Conference for the fourth time in the six-year history of the league. As regular season champions, SAU is the No. 1-seed in the GAC Tournament and have earned the right to host No. 8-seed Ouachita in the opening round series this weekend.
Statistically, the Muleriders enter play hitting .312 as a team and have a 4.17 team ERA. Through 50 games, the Muleriders have scored 376 runs offensively while the pitching staff lays claim to five shutouts.
Individually, the Muleriders have five players hitting over .300 with three of those over .360. Unanimous GAC Player of the Year,
Trevor Rucker leads the club at .384. Rucker also leads the team in home runs with 17 and four Muleriders have collected 40 or more RBIs with
Mark Fontenot leading in that category with 47.
On the mound,
Dalton Algiene (10-2) leads the team in wins with 10 while also sporting the lowest ERA among starters at 1.95. Additionally, Algiene has contributed to four of SAU's five shutouts while also leading the team in strikeouts with 88 in 73.2 innings pitched.
For Henderson State, the Reddies are hitting .271 as a team with 70 doubles, 5 triples, 23 home runs, and 272 runs scored. On the mound, the Reddies have a 4.03 team ERA and have struck out 356 opposing batters while issuing 127 bases on balls.
The leading hitter is Parker Jones at .337. Jordan Taylor leads the team in home runs (7) and RBIs (36) . Bryant Haralson has the lowest ERA among starters at 1.75. Haralson also has the most strikeouts on the team with 105 in 92.2 innings pitched.
