MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas baseball team had its best offensive output of the young campaign with season-highs in runs scored (16) and hits (18) as the Muleriders slugged their way to a 16-8 win on Wednesday night against LSU-Shreveport in non-conference play at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- LSU-Shreveport got on the board first on a RBI groundout by Kevin Rosario that scored David Salgueiro who walked to lead off the game and then stole second and third in advance of the groundout by Rosario.
- RBI singles by Mark Fontenot and James Trevanion in the bottom of the first gave the Muleriders a 2-1 lead. A two-run double by the Pilots' Layton Laird in the top of the second once more gave LSU-Shreveport at one-run lead.
- The Muleriders quickly responded once more with a four-run bottom half to take a 6-3 lead. That would be the final lead change of the game despite the Pilots pulling to within a run in the fourth.
- In that second inning, the Muleriders got a RBI triple from Blake Hall who then scored on a wild pitch, a solo home run from Trevor Rucker, and a RBI single to right field for Cortland McPherson.
- The Muleriders also struck for a four-run inning in the fifth as Nathan Stubber and Fontenot collected RBI doubles while Jacob Richardson notched a RBI triple and David LaFleur added a RBI single.
- After a two-run top of the seventh by the Pilots, the Muleriders put the game out of reach in the bottom half with six runs to make it 16-7, SAU. The Pilots picked up a run in the top of the ninth to bring the game to its eventual final of 16-8.
ON THE MOUND
- Hunter Vazquez got the start for the Muleriders and pitched 3.0 complete innings. Five pitchers followed after Vazquez with Pake Montgomery earning the win with a 2.2 innings performance in which he surrendered just one hit while holding the Pilots scoreless.
AT THE PLATE
- The Muleriders banged out a season-high 18 hits. Six players had multiple hits with Blake Hall, Mark Fontenot and Jacob Richardson each collecting three hits apiece.
- Fontenot and Trevor Rucker batted 1.000 in the game as Fontenot was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, four runs scored and three walks while Rucker was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a solo homerun to account for his RBI.
- Of the 18 team hits, seven went for extra bases as the Muleriders had four doubles, two triples and one homerun.
- Nine different Muleriders scored in the game with the top four in the starting lineup all scoring multiple runs. Fontenot crossed the plate the most with four runs scored.
ON DECK
The Muleriders will now hit the road this weekend for a three-game series at Southern Nazarene. Originally scheduled for Friday-Saturday, threat of rain on Saturday in Bethany has pushed the series back to Sunday-Monday with the doubleheader being played on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. and the series finale on Monday at Noon.
