Leading Off
The Southern Arkansas baseball team continues its lengthy homestand this weekend by playing host to GAC preseason favorite Oklahoma Baptist in a three-game set. SAU is coming off of a 2-1 series win at home against
the East Central Tigers while Oklahoma Baptist suffered a 2-1 series loss at home against the Henderson State Reddies.
Heading into the weekend, the Muleriders are hitting .298 as a team and have a 4.42 team ERA. Through the first 13 games, the Muleriders have scored 86 runs offensively while the pitching staff lays claim to a pair of shutouts.
Individually, the Muleriders have three players hitting over .350 with
Trevor Rucker leading the club at .404. Newcomer
Mark Fontenot is next in hitting at .378. Redshirt freshman
Blake Hall is also over .350 with a current average of .357. Fontenot and Rucker are tied for the team lead in home runs with three and four Muleriders have collected 10 or more RBIs as well.
On the mound,
Dalton Algiene (3-1) leads the team in wins with three while also sporting the lowest ERA among starters at 1.17. Additionally, Algiene has contributed to both of SAU's shutouts. Algiene and
Connor Wells (1-1) lead the team in strikeouts with 26 each.
For Oklahoma Baptist, they are hitting .325 as a team with 32 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, and 109 runs scored. On the mound, the Bison have a 3.75 team ERA and have struck out 125 opposing batters while issuing 52 bases on balls.
The leading hitter is Josh Timms at .407 while Zane Gelphman is the top run producer with 17 RBIs. Zach Fowler has the lowest ERA on the team at 0.45 and his 26 strikeouts lead the team as well.
