Southwestern Oklahoma Lady Bulldogs: 10-12, 4-8 GAC

PITCHING DECISIONS- GAME 1
W: Victoria Taylor (11-1)
L: Taya Haney (3-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED- GAME 1
  • Southern Arkansas trailed by one run until the top of the third inning when an RBI infield single off the bat of Maddie Dow tied the game. Tyler Casada's double to right-centerfield gave the Lady Muleriders the go-ahead run going into the fourth inning.
  • SAU added to their lead in the top of the fifth after a lead-off double from Brooke Goad eventually turned into a run courtesy of an RBI single off the bat of Marina Duran, 3-1 SAU.
  • Five runs on three hits in the sixth inning cushioned SAU's lead over the Lady Bulldogs to 8-1. That inning started with the help of a pair fielding errors that put two on base for Yulissa Hinojosa who successively plated both of those runs in her at-bat with a double to right field.
  • In that frame, Goad collected her fourth hit of the game as she sent the first pitch she saw over the right field wall resulting in a 7-1 lead that influenced a pitching change for SWOSU. The eighth and final run came on a single to centerfield off the bat of Jill Roye following a fielding error that plated pinch runner, Chloe Hicks.
  • The Lady Bulldogs put one on in the bottom of the seventh on a hit, but couldn't plate any more runs ensuing an 8-1 victory for SAU.

IN THE CIRCLE
  • Starting pitcher, Victoria Taylor, picked up the win in the circle for SAU after allowing just one run in the first inning before shutting out the Lady Bulldogs in the following six innings.
  • In Taylor's seven innings pitched, the freshman right-hander allowed only one run on four hits while striking out five to earn her 11th win on the year from the rubber.

AT THE PLATE
  • The Lady Mulerider offense combined for eight runs on 10 hits in the game.
  • Six of SAU's 10 hits went for extra bases.
  • Goad led the offense with a pair of RBI's on four hits, all of those going for extra bases including a homerun and a pair of runs scored.
  • Hinojosa followed with a pair of RBI's on two hits and a pair of runs scored.
  • Dow, Duran, and Casada each collected an RBI with Duran and Casada registering a hit a piece.

PITCHING DECISIONS- GAME 2
W: Kaylee Garner (10-0)
L: Rileigh Ricken (0-3)
S: Jill Roye (1)

HOW IT HAPPENED- GAME 2
  • The Lady Muleriders jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning after plating a pair of runs on one hit. A hit-by-pitch to Dow, a walk issued to Roye, and a single from Duran loaded the bases for Casada as she drew a one-out walk that plated the first run of the inning.
  • In that same frame, a sacrifice fly off the bat of Monica Islava gave SAU a 2-0 advantage heading into the second inning.
  • In the top of the fourth, SAU extended their lead out to 5-0 with three runs on three hits. Megan Godoyo started off that inning with an infield single followed by a walk to Goad. Dow plated Godoyo a few batters later with a hit to centerfield. A double down the right field line from Roye scored pinch runner, Sydney Johnson, and Dow to close out the scoring for that frame.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, SWOSU strung together four hits that plated three runs. Three singles loaded the bases for Tori Hawk as she proceeded to hit a base-clearing double to left centerfield that brought the Lady Bulldogs just two runs shy of SAU, 5-3.
  • A lead-off double for SWOSU in the bottom of the seventh eventually resulted in a fourth run for the Lady Bulldogs after a wild pitch advanced the runner to third, then later scored him on a sacrifice fly.
  • With the potential tying run at third base in the bottom of the seventh, Southwestern attempted to steal that run but were thrown out at the plate, catcher to pitcher for the second out. Following that out, the Lady Bulldogs were issued a walk but stranded that runner after a fly-out to right field ended the game with a 5-4 doubleheader sweep on day one for the Lady Muleriders.

IN THE CIRCLE
  • Starting pitcher, Kaylee Garner, registered the win in the circle for SAU after allowing three runs on five hits in 4 and 2/3 innings while striking out three.
  • Roye came in as relief for Garner in the fourth inning and recorded the save in the game after giving up just one run on one hit in 2.1 innings pitched.

AT THE PLATE
  • Roye led the SAU offense after tallying a pair of RBI's on one hit and one run scored, including a walk.
  • Dow, Casada, and Islava each collected an RBI in the game.
  • Duran was 2-for-4 at the dish.
  • Goad, Dow, Godoyo, and Rachel Miller each registered a hit.
