HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson Storm jumped out to a 3-0 lead on SAU, plating all three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Two of those three runs were unearned as the Muleriders committed a pair of errors in the frame.
- Not long after Southern Nazarene established that 3-0 lead, SAU ripped off a five-run top of the third to take a 5-3 lead. In that inning, Michael Page led off with a double down the right field line, and then scored on a throwing error by the Crimson Storm catcher after Page took third base on a wild pitch.
- SAU then got a double from Blake Hall and hit-by-pitch to Trevor Rucker to set up a RBI single through the left side of the infield off the bat of Mark Fontenot. A steal of third by Rucker followed and an infield single to shortstop by Jacob Richardson scored Rucker.
- After a sacrifice bunt moved Richardson to second and Fontenot to third, Cortland McPherson drove in Fontenot on a RBI groundout to first base unassisted. Cory Gallegos then followed with a double down the left field line to score Richardson.
- An inning later, SAU took a three-run lead of their own as Rucker grounded into a double play, but scoring on the play was Page.
- In the sixth, SAU opened up an 8-3 lead thanks to a two-RBI single to centerfield off the bat of Richardson. An inning later, David LaFleur swiped third base and then scored on a throwing error by the Crimson Storm catcher during the sequence.
- Three more runs crossed the plate in the top of the eighth as Mark Fontenot connected for a two-run homer while James Trevanion doubled Richardson.
- Southern Nazarene scratched across single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to bring the game to its eventual final of 12-5.
ON THE MOUND
- Kenneth Tabor got the start and pitched six innings, limiting the Crimson Storm to just three hits while striking out 10. It is the second start in which Tabor has struck out 10 batters in a game, the first of which coming on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma on February 18.
- Three other pitchers saw action in the game as George Eubanks, Jake Alexander and Nathan Stubber all pitched a complete inning in relief of Tabor.
- Eubanks handled the seventh, not allowing a hit and striking out a batter.
- Alexander pitched the eighth and did not allow a hit while striking out two.
- Stubber closed out the game in the ninth inducing a pair of groundouts
AT THE PLATE
- For the third game in the series and fifth-straight overall, the Southern Arkansas lineup racked up at least 12 hits as the Muleriders pounded out exactly that number against the Crimson Storm on Monday.
- Four Muleriders had multiple hits in the game. Blake Hall and Jacob Richardson paced the offense with three hits each as Hall was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Richardson was 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and three RBIs.
- Of the 12 hits, half went for extra bases as the Muleriders had five doubles and one homerun. Hall accounted for two of the doubles while James Trevanion, Cory Gallegos, and Michael Page each doubled as well. Mark Fontenot hit the Mulerider homerun, his fifth of the season.
