FRISCO, Texas – Some of the top track and field talent in the southwest region convened in North Texas on Thursday at the Dunamis Sport Group Classic inside the Ford Center at The Star and Southern Arkansas' men's and women's programs produced solid performances among the stiff competition.
MULERIDERS
Doug Palmer placed fourth-overall in the men's 5000 meter run in a time of 15:36.55. The men's distance medley relay team of
Bradyn Gower, Daniel Wood,
Chenier Gardner and
Jose Guevara finished in third-place in the event with a time of 10:53.16.
Guevara logged a tenth-place finish in the men's one mile with a time of 4:25.54.
Xavier Cooper placed 20
th in the men's 400 meter with a time of 50.65.
Tyler Shelton recorded a time of 8.83 in the preliminary heat of the men's 60 meter hurdles, while
Quincy Flowers produced a preliminary time of 7.08 in the men's 60 meter and a 23
rd-place finish in the men's 200 meter dash in a time of 22.53. Shelton finished 13
th in the men's high jump with a high mark of 1.85 meters.
Harrison Watson led four Muleriders in the men's 3000 meter run with a time of 9:30.75, while cross country teammate Gardner paced four Muleriders in the men's 800 meter run at a time of 2:00.56.
Sinclair Pitts logged a shot put toss of 13.13 meters for a 23
rd-place finish and placed 18
th in the men's weight throw with a distance of 14.81 meters.
Aaron Linnear led three other SAU athletes in the men's long jump event with a final length of 6.18 meters.
Arthur Jeffrey produced a sixth-place finish in the men's triple jump with a final lunge of 14.23 meters and Shelton logged a tenth-place performance with a final jump of 13.65 meters.
LADY MULERIDERS
Claudine Blancaflor logged an impressive performance in the women's one mile with a second-place finish overall in a time of 5:11.95 as she finished just 0:00.33 behind Texas Tech's Jessica Gallardo. Thirty-eight runners competed in the women's one mile event. The freshman followed that performance with a second-place conclusion in the women's 5000 meter run in 17:54.98; finishing seven seconds behind Carnley Graham of Abilene Christian.
The Lady Muleriders' 4x400 meter relay team of
Kenisha Bryant,
Kirby Roy,
Bailey Yocom and
Abby Lentz displayed a quality outing on Thursday as they placed second of six in the event with a time of 3:58.39.
Rylie Knight followed Blancaflor and led two other Lady Muleriders in the women's 5000 meter with a 13
th-place showing in 20:21.79.
Justice Reliford produced a quality showing in the women's long jump with a seventh-place finish of 5.58 meters.
Bryant finished the women's 400 meter in 59.86 for a 25
th-place finish, while Yocom finished the women's 60 meter hurdles prelims with a time of 9.72. Bryant also logged a 20
th-place finish in the women's 200 meter in a time of 25.68.
In the women's 800 meter, Sierra Romero finished in 2:34.40 as the only Lady Mulerider to compete in the event.
UP NEXT
Southern Arkansas concluded the indoor season and will now turn its attention to the outdoor schedule. The first meet outside for both the Muleriders and Lady Muleriders is slated for Friday, March 3, at the Marc Randle Classic hosted by University of Texas-Tyler in Tyler, Texas.
