Leading Off
The Southern Arkansas baseball team is set to opening Great American Conference play this season with a road series at Southeastern Oklahoma beginning on Friday afternoon. The Muleriders will enter play this weekend with a 3-3 overall record. SAU began the year 3-0, but have dropped their last three games to even their record early on.

Heading into the weekend, the Muleriders are hitting .283 as a team and have a 4.50 team ERA. Through the first six games, the Muleriders have scored 37 runs offensively while the pitching staff already lays claim to a combined shutout.

Individually, the Muleriders have four players hitting over .350 with newcomers Mark Fontenot and Cory Gallegos leading the club at .462 and .412 respectively. Senior outfielder Trevor Rucker is next in hitting at .381, and his two homeruns on the year
lead the team. Cortland McPherson is the final batter over .350 with an average of .357 through five games played.

On the mound, Dalton Algiene, Kenneth Tabor and Hunter Vasquez have accounted for the Mulerider victories while Eric Schildt has the lone save to this point. Algiene leads the team in strikeouts with 11 and he also has the second-lowest ERA among pitchers with are least six innings pitched at 1.12.

For Southeastern Oklahoma, they are hitting .225 as a team with eight doubles, a triple, a homerun, and 21 runs scored. On the mound, they have a 7.68 team ERA and have struck out 26 opposing batters while issuing 34 bases on balls.

Their leading hitter is Hunter Harrison at .333. Harrison also has their lone homerun. On the mound, Brandon Wolski has the lowest ERA at 1.04 in 8.2 innings pitched.
