Lady Muleriders handle Central Baptist in straight sets

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Behind double-digit kills from freshman Morgan Gross and senior Alli O'Banion, the Lady Mulerider Volleyball team swept Central Baptist in three-straight sets (25-19, 25-10, 25-17) on Tuesday night in a mid-week non-conference match.

With 44 total kills in tonight's contest, SAU tied their season-high team total kills in three sets behind a .356 attack clip that proved to be the second-highest attack percentage for the team this season, while also defending a season-lowest opponent attack clip of .061.

The first set was blow for blow with six tie-scores before SAU ran away with the lead after the seventh tied score, 17-all, courtesy of a pair of kills from Gross and Seven Powers and a service ace from Alexa Bass to make it a 20-17, SAU. CBC scored twice more after that coming as close as two points shy of SAU, but the Lady Muleriders came out with the victory, 25-19.

The Lady Muleriders dominated the next set with a 5-2 advantage to start and extended that lead out to 16-6 with an 11-4 run that consisted of seven kills led by Gross' three and a service ace from Bass. The Mustangs would add just four points to their scoring deficit, but SAU's .636 attack clip in the set motivated the 25-10 final decision.

SAU was able to withstand a late Mustang rally in the final set with a 25-17 final decision that allowed the Lady Muleriders to sweep the match, 3-0.
