Southern, Pillow record double-doubles; Lady Muleriders stumble on the road to Southeastern Oklahoma in four sets

DURANT, Okla. – The Lady Mulerider Volleyball team lost in four sets to Southeastern Oklahoma (21-25, 15-25, 25-17, 23-25) with a pair of double-double performances from SAU's Alexia Southern and Savannah Pillow on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern led the Lady Mulerider offense with 12 kills and O'Banion followed with 11.
  • Defensively, SAU totaled 12 blocks as a team in comparison to Southeastern's six.
  • Bailey Cagle recorded more than half of SAU's blocks with eight total on the night.
  • Pillow recorded her first double-double of the season as the senior setter had 15 assists and 12 digs.
  • Southern's 21 total digs in the match along with 12 kills gave her a double-double.
  • After dropping a closely-contested opening set followed by a loss in set two, the Lady Muleriders bounced back in the third set to avoid the straight-sets sweep.
  • In SAU's lone victorious set, they jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage aided by three kills.
  • Shortly after, Southeastern delivered a pair of service aces and benefitted from two SAU errors to take the lead 5-4.
  • Southern then tied the game at 5-all with a kill and a Savage Storm attack error allowed SAU to reclaim the lead, 6-5.
  • SOSU would go on a 7-4 run to take a 12-10 advantage over SAU that shortly resulted in a pair of lead changes before the Lady Muleriders took the final lead after a 15-17 deficit.
  • In that sequence, SAU scored the next 10 consecutive points consisting of four kills, a pair of service aces from Pillow, and four SOSU attack errors that saw a 25-17 final decision.
  • In the final set, SAU battled back from a 13-17 deficit with an 8-0 run that resulted in a 21-17 advantage.
  • A subsequent 8-2 run reestablished a Savage Storm lead with a final score of 25-23 SOSU that gave them the match win.
