Leading OffThe Southern Arkansas baseball team opens up a seven-game homestand this weekend as they welcome in Arkansas Tech for a three-game weekend series starting
at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 8. Following the conclusion of the homestand, the Muleriders will play at home just once more during the regular season as they play a mid-week game vs. Henderson State on Tuesday, April 26.
The Muleriders will be coming into the series 22-12 overall and 13-8 in GAC play, while the Wonder Boys will enter with a 16-21 overall record and an 8-13 mark in the GAC.
SAU is coming off of a series win at Harding as the Muleriders won the first and final games of that series. Meanwhile, Tech lost their most-recent conference series at home to Arkansas-Monticello, but the Wonder Boys have won their last two games, winning the series finale against UAM and picking up a 3-1 mid-week win at Ouachita Baptist.
Last year, the Muleriders and Wonder Boys met four times with SAU winning three. Two of the wins came in the regular season series with the third coming in mid-week non-conference action.
Statistically, the Muleriders rank sixth in the GAC in team batting average (.279) while ranking first in the league in team ERA (3.50). The Wonder Boys will enter play ranked fourth in the GAC in team batting average (.285) and 10th in team ERA (5.83). Defensively, the Muleriders rank ninth in the GAC while the Wonder Boys rank third.
