ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Inclement weather in the Arkadelphia area on Friday afternoon has halted SAU Softball's Great American Conference series opener with Ouachita Baptist in the third inning and officials from both schools have agreed to resume game one at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning with the regularly scheduled doubleheader (1 p.m. & 3 p.m.) to follow.
When play resumes tomorrow morning at Sully Anderson Field, the Lady Muleriders will carry a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the third inning. Southern Arkansas struck first on Friday as
Brooke Goad led-off with a single through the right side and advanced to third on a one-out base knock from the bat of
Maddie Dow. A sacrifice-fly by
Darian Harris pushed home Goad to give Southern Arkansas starter
Kimmy Beasley some early run support.
Chelsea Jordan added another run in the second inning as she sent a full-count pitch out over the centerfield fence giving the Lady Muleriders a 2-0 lead. In the third, Jordan doubled to centerfield scoring
Ashton Atwell as SAU plated a run in the first three innings of action.
Beasley worked a quick first inning and recorded a pair of strikeouts in the second frame, but in-between the pair of swinging K's was the senior left-hander's only blemish of the contest so far as a solo homerun by Kate Lacina accounts for the only Ouachita run through two and a half innings of play.
