MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Needing a win to stay alive in the hunt for the eighth and final Great American Conference Tournament spot, the Southern Arkansas Lady Mulerider Volleyball team pushed Ouachita Baptist to the brink on Tuesday evening, battling back to force a fifth set, but falling just short of playing spoiler on Senior Night as SAU suffered a five set loss (18-25,28-26,21-25,25-20,13-15) inside a rambunctious W.T. Watson Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams traded points early, before Ouachita jumped out to a 17-12 lead and suppressed a late 4-0 run from the Lady Muleriders to win the first set by seven points, 25-18.
- In what would turn out to be a spirited second frame, Southern Arkansas built a 14-9 lead before OUA fought back to tie the set at 18 points apiece. After falling down 23-21, SAU received a kill from senior Serena LeDuff and a Lady Tiger attack error to tie the set at 23. Kills from senior Kaitlyn Reiner and freshman Seven Powers helped SAU stave off a 2-0 match deficit as it gave the Lady Muleriders a 26-25 lead, before Powers coupled an OUA attack error with a kill of her own to tie the match at one set apiece.
- Ouachita would take the third set, but not before SAU rallied down 12-7 to take an 18-17 lead. The Lady Tigers would manufacture an 8-3 run to close out the frame.
- The Lady Tigers would score the fourth set's first point, before SAU led for the remainder of the frame to force a decisive fifth set after a 4-1 run to close out the frame was highlighted by kills from four different players.
- In the fifth set, SAU led 6-3 and 11-8, but Ouachita was too much down the stretch and used a 7-2 run to survive Southern Arkansas.
FOR SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
- LeDuff recorded 18 kills and finished two digs shy of a double-double, while Powers produced 17 kills, junior Alexia Southern added 15 kills and classmate Alli O'Banion followed with 14 kills to round out double-digit kill performances for Southern Arkansas. Southern led the team with a .268 attack percentage. Reiner added eight kills.
- Freshman Katy Cooper capped a stellar night commanding the offense by recording the third-most assists in the program's rally-scoring era (since 2001) with a career-high 63 and added 22 digs to record her seventh double-double of the season.
- O'Banion led SAU with three block assists and Southern added a pair of block assists.
- Hannah Rice registered team-highs in digs with 36 and service aces with two. Freshman Riley Marsh produced a dozen digs.
- Southern Arkansas outhit Ouachita .202 to .200 overall and recorded a better hit clip in three of the five sets.
- The Lady Muleriders finished with more kills (72-64), more assists (69-59) and more digs (106-94).
FOR THE OPPOSITION
- Kori Bullard recorded a game-high 22 kills and added five blocks. Tabatha Huckabee added 15 kills and Katie Camp chipped in with 10. Camp also registered a team-high pair of service aces.
- Stormi Leonard logged a double-double with 54 assists and 11 digs. She also added three blocks.
- Ashley Wake recorded a game-high 37 digs and Jayme Shell added 23.
- Ouachita hit .200 (64-23-205) in the win and recorded one more ace (3-2) and three more blocks (9-6) than Southern Arkansas.
OF NOTE
- Due to the loss, SAU will not make the Great American Conference Tournament as they needed a pair of wins in the final week coupled with a pair of Southeastern Oklahoma State losses.
- The Lady Muleriders are one win away from their tenth win of the season heading into the season finale. It would be the seventh season in a row that the Lady Muleriders have recorded ten or more wins.
