Southeastern Oklahoma uses big third quarter to top Lady Muleriders, 77-61

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southeastern Oklahoma (3-1, 2-0 GAC) used a big third quarter, outscoring the Lady Muleriders 25-10, as the Savage Storm manufactured a seventeen-point lead entering the fourth quarter to top Southern Arkansas (1-2, 1-1 GAC) 77-61 in a Great American Conference affair on Saturday afternoon inside the W.T. Watson Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Southern Arkansas jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead as the Lady Muleriders relied inside with forwards Kimberly Crown and Demi Read recording eight of SAU's first 11 points, while junior guard Caroline Ficher knocked down an early triple try to stake SAU to an 8-point advantage through the first three-and-a-half minutes of the game.
  • However, it was Southeastern Oklahoma that would benefit greatly from the long range shot as the Savage Storm shot 32.4% (11-of-34) from downtown including three-straight to give themselves a 12-11 lead en route to a 17-5 run that closed out the first quarter.
  • The Lady Muleriders continued to work inside as they outscored SOSU by a bucket, 17-15, in the frame to pull their deficit to within a basket at the intermission.
  • Southeastern Oklahoma pulled away in the third quarter courtesy of four three-point buckets and shooting 7-of-8 from the charity stripe as they produced a +15 scoring differential in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
  • SAU trailed by as much as 21 in the fourth quarter, but battled back before SOSU ended the game at the free throw line.
  • The Savage Storm turned 18 SAU turnovers into 19 points, while SOSU committed just eight turnovers that resulted in 10 SAU points. The Lady Muleriders won the battled inside 32-22.
