Lady Muleriders sweep Northwestern Oklahoma State

SAU picks up second-straight win behind solid performances from O’Banion and Lampkin

 
MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Lady Mulerider Volleyball team picked up a much needed Great American Conference victory with a three-set defeat (25-15,25-23,25-22) of Northwestern Oklahoma State inside the W.T. Watson Center on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Southern Arkansas commanded leads of 8-2, 15-6 and 21-12 in the opening set to take a 25-15 set one win.
  • The Rangers battled in the second set to tie the frame at 22 apiece, before Southern Arkansas was able to claim the set, 25-23.
  • With the momentum, the Lady Muleriders jumped out to a 17-8 advantage and suppressed a late by Northwestern Oklahoma that brought the Rangers to within 24-22, before junior Alexia Southern blasted home a match-clinching kill.
  • SAU attacked at .162, while holding the Rangers to a swing clip of .096.
 
FOR SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
 
  • Junior Alli O'Banion led the offensive charge for SAU with a game-high 13 kills on an impressive .391 attack clip. She also chipped in with 5.0 total blocks tying a season-high.
  • Junior Brittany Lampkin was just as impressive as her classmate O'Banion as she registered eight kills on a .500 swing percentage, while producing a game-high 8.0 total blocks.
  • Senior Paige Mays registered a game-high 21 digs; the most for a Southern Arkansas player in a three-set match this season. Freshman Riley Marsh added 13 digs; her fifth contest this season with 10 or more digs.
  • Freshman Katy Cooper again directed the offense with 34 assists; her seventh game this season with at least 30 assists.
 
FOR THE OPPOSITION
 
  • Natalie Fahey led the Rangers with nine kills.
  • Kiauna Clark led NWOSU with 18 assists, added six digs and a team-high 2.0 total blocks.
  • Tobi Barker collected seven digs to lead the Rangers.

  • The Lady Muleriders have a quick turnaround as they welcome the defending Great American Conference Tournament Champions Southwestern Oklahoma State into the W.T. Watson Center tomorrow afternoon for a 1 p.m. first-serve. Southern Arkansas fell in four-sets to the Bulldogs last November in the finals of the Great American Conference Tournament.
