HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Lady Muleriders trailed by nine, 20-11, as Treveca Nazarene was seemingly on their way to a set two victory and a 2-0 match lead, but Southern Arkansas mounted a late rally that resulted in a 30-28 win that tied the match at one and sparked two more set wins (15-25, 30-28, 25-13, 25-20) as SAU downed the Trojans on Saturday morning inside Spragins Hall at the UAH Volleyball Classic.
After falling in the first set 25-15, the Lady Muleriders (2-1) pulled to within a point of TNU at 11-10 as a result of a service error, but the Trojans took advantage of a handful of errors by Southern Arkansas to take the aforementioned commanding nine point lead.
A pair of kills from sophomore
Alli O'Banion and a
Serena LeDuff service ace highlighted a 6-1 run that supplied the momentum for the Lady Muleriders late in the second set. Facing set-point for the Trojans, Southern Arkansas used a pair of offensive errors by TNU and a kill from senior
Taylor Reaume to tie the set at 24. A 6-4 run closed out the set as Reaume used four of her 44 assists to spread the TNU defense as O'Banion, Lauterbach and LeDuff (2) all registered kills to even the match at one.
With the momentum, Southern Arkansas dominated in the third set as the Lady Muleriders attacked at 40.7% to take a 2-1 match lead, while shutting down a late rally by the Trojans in set four to take the match.
