GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – The Southern Arkansas Mulerider baseball team suffered their first loss in the QuikTrip DII Classic after they were defeated by Great American Conference foe Arkansas-Monticello 6-2 on Saturday afternoon in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Southern Arkansas (4-2) scored first off of the bat of freshman catcher
Mason Mallard who hit a solo homerun in the home half of the second to give SAU an early 1-0 lead. UAM would answer a half-inning later by scratching their first run off of SAU starter
Yumezo Densaki.
Mallard would leave the yard again in the 5
th inning with his second solo homerun to break a tied 1-1 ballgame.
The Boll Weevils added two runs in the 6
th and 7
th innings to take a 5-2 lead and end Densaki's day on the mound. UAM would add an insurance run in the 9
th to win their third game in as many days in Grand Prairie.
Mallard was 2-for-3 with the previously mentioned solo homeruns. Densaki suffered the loss, but scattered four hits and two runs while striking out three in 5.2 innings of work.
