GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – For the second day in a row, the Southern Arkansas Mulerider baseball team used some extra-inning magic to pick up a win in the inaugural QuikTrip Classic as SAU defeated West Texas A&M 4-3 on a 10
th inning solo home run by
Chris Quinn on Friday afternoon in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Down 3-2 in the bottom half of the 9
th, the Muleriders' (4-1)
Jon Phillips started the rally with a double off the left field wall.
Renaldo Morris would pinch run for Phillips and was promplty moved to third on a groundout to second base by
Korey Keith.
With the infield drawn in,
Carver Rademacher found a hole through the left side of the infield to score Morris and promise Mulerider fans at least extra-inning baseball for the third-straight game.
In the top half of the 10
th, freshman catcher
Mason Mallard set the stage for Quinn's heroics as he gunned down an attempted steal to end the Buffalo effort. In the bottom half of the inning Quinn led off and on a 2-2 pitch he dropped a solo shot into the left field bleachers for his second walk off in as many days.
Preston Gray, the starting pitcher for the Muleriders, earned the complete game as he scattered eight hits and three runs in an impressive 10 innings of work en route to picking up his second win of the year.
Southern Arkansas continues play in the QuikTrip DII Classic with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is scheduled to begin play in the second game of the day with a matchup against Great American Conference foe Arkansas-Monticello, which will be followed by a 4 p.m. first-pitch against Texas A&M-Kingsville of the Lone Star Conference.
