Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | By: Daniel Gallegos

Muleriders keep pace atop GAC with 90-82 win over Southeastern Oklahoma

DURANT, Okla. – The Southern Arkansas men's basketball team kept themselves within reach of the top spot in the Great American Conference after they picked up a 90-82 win on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday night at the Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Four Muleriders would score in double figures in the game with Jaron Davis leading the way with 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting (5-of-9 from three-point). Behind Davis was Alre'k Brown with 19 points. Deon Andrews followed with 15 points and Tyrell Taylor rounded out double-figure scoring with 14 points.

The eventual 90-point scoring output by the Muleriders (14-6, 10-4 GAC) was the third time in the last five games that SAU has scored 90 or more points. In all three of those games, SAU has come away with the win.

On Thursday night, reaching 90 points did not appear to be likely through the first 20 minutes of the game as the Muleriders had only scored 33 points and headed into the locker room trailing by three. However, coming out of the break, the Muleriders' offense kicked into high gear as they opened up the first four minutes on a 9-2 run to take a four-point lead, 42-38, with 15:58 left on the clock.

The lead change over that early second-half run for the Muleriders would be the final one of the game as SAU was able to begin to distance themselves from the Savage Storm (10-11, 6-7 GAC) as the conference clash wore on.

Helping the Muleriders build upon their lead and keep Southeastern at bay was an outstanding 61% (17-of-28) overall shooting effort from the floor over the second half. More impressively, however, the Muleriders shot 84% (16-of-19) from the charity stripe in the second half en route to turning in one of their best overall performances from the line this season going 23-of-28 (82%).

The Muleriders will remain on the road this weekend and will travel to Bethany, Okla. to take on Southern Nazarene on Saturday, February 7. Tip-off for the game is set for 3 p.m. at the Sawyer Center.
