NORMAN, Okla. – The Southern Arkansas Track and Field program produced a very solid performance on Saturday in Norman, Oklahoma, as they competed in the University of Oklahoma's Mosier Indoor Athletic Facility as part of the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational.
Carli Langley eclipsed her school record in the 5000 meter run by 11 seconds and finished in first place with a time of 17:38.95, over 45 seconds better than the next best performer.
Abbey Foreman finished 5
th with a time of 19:23.36 and
Mattie Whitehead collected a top-ten finish in ninth place with a time of 20:42.48.
In the men's 5000 meter run,
Cody Fox and
Mason Powers finished 4
th and 7
th respectively. Both performers bettered their time from their season-opening performance at the A-State Invitational.
Virginia Ney ran the women's 1 mile run in 5:14.43; good for a top-five finish in fourth place. Ney and Langley competed with
Marquesha Davis and
Jessica McGuffee in the women's distance medley and produced a third place finish with a time of 13:08.81.
Jose Guevara finished in third place in the men's 1 mile run, while
Chris Wallace logged a 7
th place performance out of 43 runners. Both athletes produced a sub four and a half minute mile.
The SAU men's distance medley team of Guevara, Reading,
Kirby Shepherd and Wallace finished in the top five by manufacturing a sub-11 minute time of 10:50.32.
The finals of the 60 meter dash saw Zikerious Ware finish in third place with a time of 6.91. Joining Ware for a 7
th place finish in the men's 4x220 meter relay was
Quincy Flowers, Gary Jones and
Michael Bazzelle.
Elijah Reading finished in tenth place in the men's 600 meter run.
Raul Hernandez's time of 9:31.52 earned him a 9
th place finish in the men's 3000 meter run.
The women's 4x440 yard relay team of
Kenisha Bryant,
Dakota Mayr,
Maya Taylor and
Leah Deberry finished 6
th with a time of 4:10.23.
In the women's field events,
Justice Reliford recorded a long jump of 5.21 meters (17 feet, 1 ¼ inches) for a seventh place finish.
Bethaney Billings tied for 10
th with a high jump of 1.52 meters (4 feet, 11 ¾ inches).

Southern Arkansas will again compete in three weeks at the Marc Randle Classic hosted by the University of Texas at Tyler on March 6
th, before heading to Austin, Texas, for the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, a four-day event beginning on March 25
th and running through the 28
th on the campus of the University of Texas.
