SEARCY, Ark. - Four Lady Muleriders collected 10 or more kills led by junior
Serena LeDuff's 16 and senior setter
Taylor Reaume recorded her tenth double-double of season with 46 assists and 16 digs as Southern Arkansas completed the regular season sweep of Harding with a five-set road victory (25-18, 23-25, 15-25, 25-15, 15-10) on Tuesday evening in Searcy.
The win pushes the Lady Muleriders (16-12, 7-6 GAC) above .500 in Great American Conference play and into a four-way tie for fourth place in the league with a week and a half remaining in the regular season. Most importantly, SAU clinched a spot in mid-November's GAC Tournament presented by Subway.
Southern Arkansas attacked at .168 over the five-set match, but handled Harding as they forced the Lady Bisons to hit at a clip of .115 including an average attack percentage of .026 in the three sets SAU won. Leading that defensive effort was junior
Hannah Rice who led five players with double-digit dig totals with 36, while classmate
Kaitlyn Reiner delivered with four blocks followed by a pair apiece from senior
Emilie Aase and sophomore
Alli O'Banion.
Offensively, LeDuff and Reiner combined to produce an average hitting percentage of .309, highlighted by LeDuff's clip of .326; her second-best mark of the season when attacking more than 35 times.
Down two sets to one on the road, Southern Arkansas engineered an 8-2 run to begin the fourth set and more impressively weathered an ensuing 10-2 run that gave Harding a 12-10 lead. The Lady Muleriders would end the frame and force a pivotal fifth set after a 13-5 run turned the momentum.
A critical 4-0 run that included kills from LeDuff, O'Banion and Lauterbach pushed SAU's advantage to 8-5 in the final set and a 4-1 run ended the match.
Junior
Paige Mays added 20 digs and led SAU with three service aces to push her team-leading season total to 38. Junior
Brittney Johnson produced 15 digs and sophomore
Savannah Pillow contributed with 10. Reiner, O'Banion and Lauterbach all collected 10 kills on the night.
The Lady Muleriders continue their road swing as they travel to Russellville, Arkansas, for a matchup with conference-leading and tournament top-seed Arkansas Tech on Thursday, October 5, with a first-serve coming at 6 p.m.
