Lady Muleriders fall in three sets to Arkansas Tech on the road

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southern Arkansas received a game-high 14 kills from junior outside hitter Serena LeDuff and senior setter Taylor Reaume logged her eleventh double-double of the year with 32 assists and 10 digs, but SAU was unable to overcome a tough offensive attack by Arkansas Tech as the Golden Suns picked up their 14th Great American Conference win with a three set victory (25-16, 26-24, 25-22) on Thursday evening inside Tucker Coliseum.

The Lady Muleriders (16-13, 7-7 GAC) collected 58 digs led by junior defensive specialist Hannah Rice's 17 and SAU forced 17 Tech attack errors, but the Golden Suns attacked at a clip of .260 in a 127 total attacks to pick up their 14th-consecutive conference win.

Junior middle hitter Kaitlyn Reiner recorded eight kills at a swing percentage of .500 and added a team-leading three blocks, while four other Lady Muleriders combined for the remaining 14 kills.

Leading 13-10 in the opening set, Southern Arkansas was unable to fight off a 15-3 Tech run that closed out the first set. In the second set, the Lady Muleriders would grab back some of the momentum late as they led 24-22 with set point, but Tech stormed back with a trio of kills and used a Southern Arkansas attack error to take a commanding 2-0 match lead.

Trailing by six in the third set 22-16, Reiner delivered with a pair of kills and sophomore outside hitter Alli O'Banion added another to cut the late Tech lead to 22-19. Again Reiner would answer with a kill and LeDuff followed suit to pull within two at 23-21, before ATU ended the match via kills.

With two matches remaining on the regular season slate, Southern Arkansas can still improve their seeding before the Great American Conference Tournament presented by Subway begins on November 19, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

The Lady Muleriders will return to action at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, against Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, before closing out the 2015 regular season at home against Henderson State on Thursday, November 12 at 7 p.m.
